    [1] There's a disjunction between the pagination and the page count. The table of contents anticipates a seamless transition between the last page of the table of contents (v), the first page of the "Historical Sketch" which it lists as beginning on page 6, and a one-page introduction which it lists as beginning and ending on page 8.
    [2] However, the verso of the Table of Contents is blank [vi / 6], and the introduction is two pages long (7-8). As a result, if you count back from the first Arabic numeral (10) or forward from the last Roman numeral (v), the pagination will shift.
